Housemate

What does it do?
Shelter Scotland created the app Housemate to prevent disputes between landlords and tenants over deposit repayments. The application creates a full record of the entire house inventory and the condition of the furniture and decor. As a tenant you can email your inventory to your landlord when you move in which means when you are ready to move out the landlord can check your inventory against the state of the house. The tenant or landlord simply inputs all information regarding rent, deposits, number of rooms etc and items for each room. For each item you can take a photo to record any damages as well as adding comments which can then be exported into a document ready to email to your landlord. Housemate also include Shelter Scotland’s housing advice portal which provides you with help and support with housing.
What’s the verdict?
The Housemate application should reduce the chances of housing disputes occurring between tenants and landlords. Here at izzyj we think its a great idea – especially with the ability to attach photos to the inventory as it can be used as evidence if disputes were ever to rise. Before using the application, it would be sensible to mutually agree with your tenant/landlord that you are going to use the application to record the condition of the house to avoid any further disputes. This app has the potential to grow and grow and we love the idea!
