What does it do?

Kwit gives you a visual representation of how well you are doing with stopping smoking. The app uses “gamification” methods which allow the user to feel as though quitting smoking is a game with achievements at different benchmarks. This is measured by 3 different factors within the game; Kwitter since, money earned and cigarettes not smoked. Using these counters you are given an accurate indication of how long you have quit for, how much money you have saved by not smoking and the total amount of cigarettes not smoked. All of these figures can be shared via. social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter as well as Email and Text Messaging. As time goes on, Push Notifications are sent to the device which inform you about ‘Unlocks’ which correspond to Health, Wellbeing, Time, Money and Cigarettes which help you to ‘Level Up’. Each different Unlock has a unique title which gives you a boost in confidence to continue and reminds you why you are giving up. When you reach different levels you are given a title which is similar to a hierarchy format, increasing in reputation as you quit for longer. If you are struggling one day and feel as though you need to smoke simply touch the cards. This will give you a pop up giving encouragement to continue in your mission to stop smoking forever.

What’s the verdict?

Lots of new quitting and educational games are introducing ‘gamification’ which basically turns a serious concept into a game-like concept. This has proven to engage a wider audience for longer since the time based rewards need to be worked towards. With Kwit, you are presented with a clean and fresh design which is easy to navigate. It is almost exciting waking up in the morning to find notifications that tell you that you have saved £25.00. We fully agree that this app is a necessary a solution if you are giving up smoking. In the future it would be great to see different Kwit objectives as well as smoking such as drinking and gambling. This would broaden the appeal of the application to a larger audience and increase hits.
