What does it do?
Control your Xbox directly form your iDevice! SmartGlass is a clever new way to navigate through your Xbox menu’s with ease and speed. All of the interactive content that your Xbox can display such as music and videos can be watched and listened to through internet streaming, you can even watch Sky TV from the application. Manage your gamertag and profile with a simple editor which lets you change all of the details within your gamer account as well as message your friends on the fly with the built in chat feature between gamertags. This app also allows you to browse the internet on your Xbox, with full keyboard support from the device that you are using meaning that you will no longer have to navigate through all of the letters using the controller. All of this is available providing that your Xbox is left on, which to some people is a slight issue – however if you can ignore your electricity bills this is a brilliant addition to the Micrososft product.
What’s the verdict?
Besides the fact you have to constantly leave your Xbox on, the functionality far outweighs the issues. The ability to fully browse the internet while you are away from your Xbox is brilliant and can really be used to improve the functionality of your work and social activities during the day. Messaging is also a very clever feature as this could potentially mean receiving important updates directly through Xbox while you are on the go. The application interface is very clean and resembles that of the Xbox but with a hint of Windows 8 creeping in. Overall, this app is an effective way to increase productivity in your daily life, even if it means typing away during a game!
